The Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan extends its appreciation to Mr. Andreas Mundt — President of the German Bundeskartellamt, member of the Bureau of the OECD Competition Committee, Chair of the Steering Group of the International Competition Network (ICN) from 2013 to 2025, and a globally recognized authority in competition policy and regulation — for his letter acknowledging and supporting the Committee’s initiatives aimed at establishing mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation in the future with the Bundeskartellamt, Germany’s independent antitrust authority, and for endorsing ongoing efforts to advance national competition legislation and policy.
In particular, in 2024, at the invitation of the German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation, an official delegation of the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, led by the Committee’s senior leadership, conducted a working visit to the cities of Bonn and Munich, Germany. The visit aimed to establish and further strengthen cooperation in the field of competition with Germany’s authorized institutions and research organizations responsible for the development of competition, antitrust regulation, and consumer protection. The visit also served the purpose of enhancing the professional capacity of the Committee’s staff.
The Committee’s delegation visited the Monopolies Commission (Monopolkommission), the Federal Network Agency (Bundesnetzagentur), the Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin), the Federal Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt), and the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition. During these meetings, the parties discussed new initiatives, joint research projects, calculation of the Competition Index, application of legal frameworks in enforcement practices, and mechanisms for overseeing cross-border economic concentration agreements.
As a result of the visit, an agreement was reached to organize dedicated training sessions for the staff of the Competition Committee. In this context, a seminar entitled “Practical Approaches to Studying and Ensuring Compliance with Competition Law: German Perspectives and Implementation Challenges in Uzbekistan” is scheduled to take place from 26 to 30 May of the current year.
