On July 31 of this year, the Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a seminar titled “Practice of Applying Leniency Programmes in Combating Cartels.”
The event was held as part of the Institutional Capacity Building Project, implemented in cooperation with the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the World Bank. The seminar featured international expert Ms. Lia Grauberger, who is supporting the development and implementation of a Leniency Programme in Uzbekistan.
During the presentation, analytical insights were shared on the legal and institutional frameworks of Leniency Programmes that have been successfully implemented in countries such as the United States, Germany, and Japan. Drawing on the experiences of the European Union, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Korea, initial proposals and ideas for introducing a similar programme in Uzbekistan were also presented.
Senior officials and specialists from the Committee’s central office actively participated in the seminar, contributing to in-depth discussions on the topic. The event was recognized as an important step toward fostering a healthy competitive environment in Uzbekistan and establishing effective, transparent mechanisms for combating cartels in line with international standards.
