The Competition Promotion and Consumer Protection Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan commemorated World Consumer Day on March 15 by conducting educational seminars on “Interesting Information from the Financial Sector: Clients and Consumers” at Youth Centers in the Tashkent region and the city of Tashkent.
This event, focused on enhancing financial literacy, was a collaborative effort involving the Competition Committee, German Sparkassenstiftung, and the Youth Union of Uzbekistan. Matthias Wangler, the Head of the Representative Office of German Sparkassenstiftung for International Cooperation in Uzbekistan, enlightened the audience about the organization’s activities. The Sparkassenstiftung bank, with over 50 million clients in Germany, is served by more than 300 thousand employees. Mr. Wangler also provided comprehensive information on how consumers should navigate challenges in the financial sector.
In 2023, the Competition Committee received over 900 appeals from citizens concerning the financial sector, covering aspects such as banking services, contract issues, credit, and bank plastic cards. The Committee consistently organizes educational seminars and events to enhance the legal literacy of the population, with a particular focus on young people. This year, an online Olympiad titled “Financially Literate Young Consumer” was successfully conducted.
The educational seminars covered crucial topics, including consumer rights, insurance, credit, savings, financial planning, personal finance formation and management, types of plastic cards, cybersecurity, and services offered by banks. Industry experts addressed students’ and youths’ inquiries during these events, providing them with contemporary and relevant information.
Similar initiatives, organized by the Competition Committee in anticipation of World Consumer Rights Day on March 15, are ongoing throughout the entire republic.
