On October 20 this year, the Antimonopoly Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with representatives of the World Bank as part of the Institutional Capacity Building Project for Uzbekistan.
Meeting was attended by Mr. Shakhrukh Sharakhmetov (Chairman of the Committee), Mr. Asadulla Kayumov (First Deputy Chairman of the Committee), Mr. Farrukh Karabaev (Deputy Chairman of the Committee), Mr. Sherzod Soatov (Head of the International Cooperation Department) Mr. Bakhadir Yusupjanov (Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department) and also representatives of the World Bank, Ms. Mariana Iootty De Paiva Dias (Senior Economist), Ms. Gaukhar Ospanova (Private Sector Specialist), Mr. Yeraly Beksultan (Senior Private Sector Specialist), Ms. Davida Connon (Private Sector Development Specialist).
In addition to sharing international best practices in private sector regulation, during the meeting discussed a methodology for assessing competition in the sector, guidelines for regulating price controls, as well as improving mechanisms to support reforms in the private sector.
In addition, negotiations were held on the selection of local and foreign legal advisers to collect relevant information for calculating the World Bank and OECD commodity market regulation index for the Republic of Uzbekistan. In turn, representatives of the World Bank expressed their readiness to provide full assistance to the Committee in this matter.
