🇺🇿 This October, with the support of the German Sparkassen Stiftung, the Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Farrukh Karabaev, <\/strong>visited the Directorate-General for Competition of the European Commission (main Competition authority of European Union)<\/strong> in Brussels<\/strong> (Belgium). During his visit, he held a meeting with Deputy Director-General for Antitrust & Digital Platform Regulation, Ms. Linsey McCallum,<\/strong> and Head of Competition Policy and Strategy, Ms. Inge Bernaerts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the meeting Farrukh Karabaev shared information on progress of structural reforms ongoing in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Mirziyoyev, especially, on achievements in ensuring level playing field and strategies for further reduction of state presence in economy and recent developments in competition law and had very insightful discussion on European Commission’s approach and practice in regulation of global digital platforms<\/p>\n

The Commission representatives shared their experience in conducting investigations into global digital platforms, anti-cartel investigations, state aid control, and mergers and acquisitions.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the Committee representative participated in an international workshop on the practical aspects of EU competition legislation and policy,<\/strong> held meeting with Dr. Bernd Meyring,<\/strong> President of the Global Competition Law Center of the College of Europe,<\/strong> and members of the Intellectual Property and Competition Committee of the EuroUz Association for Economic Cooperation between the European Union and Uzbekistan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Key results and agreements of these meetings include:<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

organizing a three-month visiting programme by dispatching the experts of Competition Committee of Uzbekistan to European Commission to gain hands-on experience in competition law enforcement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

launching a consultation mechanism between the Committee and the Directorate-General for Competition for antitrust regulation of global digital platforms.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the EuroUz Association and the Committee, according which,<\/strong> the Association will support the Committee in developing cooperation with the European Commission, eliminating barriers for European businesses operating in Uzbekistan, and establishing a permanent consultation mechanism to increase the European investments inflow in Uzbekistan.<\/strong><\/p>\n
